Jon Allen

Drawing steadily since 1981.

My art grows out of an assorted interest deciphered through a genuine love to draw and write. Along with an invested curiosity of nature, birds, love, relationships, and the varied scope and horrors of history, I have created a fantastically political despotic fable. Of my 31 years and going on this planet, it's an accumulation of the past fourteen years of work, ideas, frustration, and the quest for peace through persistent unadulterated examination of this beautiful and bizarre world we inhabit.

Allen developed a childhood obsession to the natural world that has continued into the present.  With a BFA in painting from Syracuse University his painting style is indicative of naturalist artist from the turn of the 19th century in combination with abstract elements; thus melding the notion of humanity’s renewed connection to the natural world- a sort of ‘archaic revival’.  The image of the 'bird' has become symbolic with destruction, endangerment, and a world on the edge of utter uncertainty. This year he has been the featured ‘Artist of the Month’ at Pierogi Gallery in Brooklyn, NY which was followed by a group show titled, (Un)Natural Selections.
